ABOUT NFITC

We are more than just a fashion show. Native Fashion in the City is a developmental and educational program and annual event which aims to support the next generation of indigenous fashion designers, stylists, models, and photographers by providing a creative professional environment to foster promising fashion talent such as little to no cost business mentoring, educational seminars, webinars, networking opportunities and coaching.

THE BEGINNING

What started as a collaborative partnership between Native Max Magazine and Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce in 2013 stemmed into an annual interactive fashion and cultural showcase. Now in its 7th year, NFITC is still planned and produced following the same mission it was founded on.

WHAT WE DO

The aim for NFITC is to root the indigenous fashion world firmly in the international fashion scene, by giving a platform from which talents from across Indian Country will be given an opportunity for exposure for models, fashion designers, hairstylists, makeup artists, wardrobe stylists or photographers.

THE FASHION SHOW

Native Fashion in the City hosts and produces an annual event set in Denver, Colorado which showcases indigenous fashion designers, stylists, models, and photographers from all over the country in one interactive runway show and presented in a city where the Native culture and heritage is still thriving.

HOW WE DIFFER FROM THE REST

The Fashion Industry is a serious market, and so are we. We plan each of our events and programs carefully, which makes us the Premier Native Fashion event of North America. What distinguishes NFITC from other indigenous fashion showcases is the unique approach we take in planning the event. Each event is organized similar to a fashion week. Not only do we invite media and store buyers to our events, we also provide a commerce platform during the fashion show to allow fashion designers to make sales and promote their businesses.

DEDICATED TO INCLUSIVITY

It’s no secret that the definition of beauty and “the perfect body” seems to be predefined in modern society, thanks to the media, social media and especially the mainstream fashion industry. NFITC celebrates body positivity, diversity and inclusivity by empowering those who participate in the event: giving priority to designers who create designs in a wide range of sizes for varying bodiesand accepting models of all shapes and sizes. NFITC is dedicated to evolving society’s notion of what is beautiful against what has been imposed by the world for so long.

OUR WORK WITH THE YOUTH

Today’s indigenous youth are more motivated and talented than ever before. The best thing about today is that the youth don’t follow the trend, but now the trend follows the youth--and that is the power of the youth. They are young, beautiful, eccentric, experimental and connected to their culture! This is why NFITC provides platforms for indigenous youth, including giving priority to the youth who wish to participate in NFITC. Whether they want to be a fashion designer, model, photographer, stylist or event planner, they’re able to practice and grow by participating in NFITC.
